Trekking team a source of inspiration

LINDISFARNE trekking team Active Solutions has taken out the title of “Most Inspiring Team” during the recent Wild Women On Top Melbourne Coastrek.

The adventure challenge, which was held in November last year, saw 500 teams of four trekkers, including at least two women per team, walk 30 or 60-kilometres along the Mornington Peninsula to raise vital funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation.

The event, which saw a total of 2000 trekkers cross the finish line, raised more than $1.3 million to assist the foundation to continue its fight to end avoidable blindness.

The Lindisfarne team, led by local Marg Marshall, raised more than $7,600 for the cause and took out the award for “Most Inspiring Team” for Ms Marshall’s harrowing story of overcoming symphysis pubis dysfunction, which left her without the ability to walk.

The Fred Hollows Foundation founding director Gabi Hollows said it was inspiring to see so many people take part in the challenge.

Ms Hollows said she was “incredibly grateful” for the efforts of all the participants.

“I’d like to personally thank all 2000 participants, their donors and our wonderful volunteers for helping us exceed our goal of $1.2 million for Melbourne Coastrek and for bringing the total amount raised through Coastrek to more than $14 million since it began,” she said.

As award winners, Ms Marshall and her team will now go on to tackle the World Expeditions Larapinta Experience.
