Take the family to the sand

THE Lions Club of Clarence is inviting community members to don their running or walking shoes and hit the sand in its third annual Bendigo Bank Run the Beaches fun run and walk.

The family-friendly event will return on Sunday 1 March after the last two events proved a resounding success, with hundreds of people taking to the picturesque foreshore of Bellerive and Howrah beaches.

This year’s five-kilometre run/walk course will again take participants along Bellerive and Howrah beaches, before looping back to finish in the Bellerive Beach playground park.

There’s also a two-kilometre event along Bellerive Beach for kids, and a 50-metre dash for children with disabilities and toddlers.

Run the Beaches is held to help empower Tasmanian children who cannot walk unassisted, with all proceeds from the event to be donated to the Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation (www.alcmf.lions.org.au).

The ALCMF raises funds used to purchase mobility devices for children living with conditions like cerebral palsy, allowing them to get out of their wheelchairs and onto their feet, able to walk, explore, play, work and socialise.

At the conclusion of the fun run events, entrants and their friends and family are invited to attend the Run the Beaches fitness and wellbeing community expo, focusing on children’s health.
