South Arm Men’s Shed launches new garden space

THE South Arm Peninsula Men’s Shed has opened a new community garden.
Men’s Sheds are diverse in structure and function but common in their purpose to improve the health and wellbeing of their members.
Sheds are a safe place to make friends, share meaningful conversation, talk and access health information and resources.
South Arm Peninsular Men’s Shed president Ian Glover said the unveiling of the garden was a celebration.
“It was a collaborative project that has resulted in a small native garden being planted out,” he said.
“It includes a ‘Jack and Jill’ seat where members can take a break, play cards, watch golfers spoiling a good walk, potter in the raised garden beds or hot house and enjoy the northern sun on their backs.”
Clarence Council Deputy Mayor Allison Ritchie spoke about the important role Men’s Sheds play in addressing men’s health and wellbeing.
“Men’s Sheds are enablers for men to socialise, learn and provide mutual support in an environment where men feel comfortable as part of their community,” she said.
Deputy Mayor Ritchie congratulated the South Arm Men’s Shed on hosting a great “Open Shed” event in celebration of the many months of hard work that ultimately delivered a vibrant and welcoming new garden space.
