Orchid Spring Show in full bloom

THE Tasmanian Orchid Society is gearing up to usher in the new season with its annual Spring Show at the Hobart Town Hall later this month.

The show is free entry for all, and lift access is available.

The show will feature spectacular displays of orchids by the society’s members, potting demonstrations, and information on growing orchids.

The Tasmanian Orchid Society’s specialty orchid potting mix and a large variety of orchids will be available to purchase.

Tasmanian Orchid Society senior vice president Vicki Cleaver encouraged community members to consider joining the society and learn from other like-minded people.

“Our youngest member, teenager Rosie Heutschel, and her mum Anna Beinssen became members of our society following the Annual Show in 2018,” she said.

“Rosie has a small collection of orchids and has already had some of her plants acknowledged at the society’s monthly meetings.

“The society members were recently treated to an open day at their Sandford property to see a wide variety of Native Terrestrial Orchids growing and flowering in their natural environment.

“Consider buying a ticket in the raffle for your chance to win beautiful flowering orchids; this could be your opportunity to start a new hobby.

“We hope to see you there.”

The Orchid Spring Show will be held at the Hobart Town Hall from 26-29 September.

Opening hours are Thursday (26 September) 1pm-5pm, Friday and Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 9am-3pm.
