Old Mates marks 10 years

FARMERS and rural workers from across Tasmania came together at Wattle Hill on Saturday 1 August for the annual Old Mates day.
Hosted by Terry White at his farm, this year’s gathering marked the 10th anniversary of the popular event, which gives people from rural communities an opportunity to catch up, unwind and talk about issues affecting them and their families.
Around 150 people attended this year’s event, continuing a tradition that has become an important social occasion for farming and rural families.
Old Mates provides a welcoming environment for people from remote and regional communities to connect with others while promoting positive mental health and social support.
Clarence Mayor Brendan Blomeley attended the event at the invitation of Mr White and praised the role it had played over the past decade.
“This is a wonderful and very important event for those of our rural and farming communities,” Mayor Blomeley said.
“Terry deserves our appreciation for so generously hosting around 150 attendees at a gathering that means so much in terms of social connection and support.”
