Local Honour Roll inductee spreads her inspiration

ROSNY local Carole Edwards aims to inspire people to contribute to their community after being inducted into the Tasmanian Honour Roll of Women.

Mrs Edwards was inducted into the Honour Roll this year due to her work as an urban designer for the Hobart City Council and as convenor and founder of the Rosny Montagu Bay Landcare and Coastcare Group from 1992 to 2010.

She worked on many important projects that helped revitalise communities including the Hobart CBD Revitalisation in the 1990s, the transformation of the North Hobart area and the ‘Footsteps towards Freedom’ project that acknowledged the arrival of convict children and women through sculptures in Hunter Street.

“It has been a great joy to work on major urban projects with great design teams, and working with my local community has been incredibly rewarding,” Mrs Edwards said.

“If you can improve access or liveability in those areas then it’s very worthwhile.”

Mrs Edwards said she was proud of the work that had been done by the Rosny Montagu Bay Landcare and Coastcare Group to care for the area.

“The Rosny and Montagu Bay communities are very special in that they recognise and value of the unique bushland areas that sit alongside the River Derwent,” she said.

“Rosny Hill and the foreshore bushland area showcases the natural values of the Eastern Shore to a very wide audience.

“While volunteering for Landcare and Rotary, we were able to combine the skills of both bodies and provide seating around Rosny Point to increase walking and resting opportunities around this rare and wonderful river and bushland edge.”

Mrs Edwards stressed that while the Honour Roll recognised individual women and organisations, their biographies always referred to an excellent team, community or support network behind them.

“It’s a great honour,” she said.

“I’m aware that there are so many people that make valuable contributions in Tasmania and I think we have a very special community in Tasmania that inspires people to want to make a contribution to this island.

“I like to be part of a community, and I want to make a difference to improving the value of living in that community.”
