Furry friends help win car

PET ownership is already widely recognised as having many benefits, but Howrah local Amelia Walter can now include “winning a car” to the list as well.

Ms Walter entered a competition at her local Animal Tuckerbox in Mornington and won a Kia Picanto 2017 valued at $18,000.

The competition was run by Just for Pets, Australia’s largest group of independent pet retailers.

“I never thought I would buy cat food from a pet store and walk out the winner of a brand-new car,” she said.

“I was offered the entry form at the counter on paying for the food and remember joking with the staff member about how nice it would be to win a car.

“I have never really won anything, so to win this car was unbelievable.

“Winning this car has been a wonderful surprise and very welcome good news after a personally difficult year.”

Ms Walter works as a registered nurse and is a busy mum of two children and two animals – a cat named Max and a rabbit, Charlie.

“I feel pets are a very special part of a family,” she said.

“They provide love, company and entertainment while teaching children important life skills of caring and responsibility.”

Just for Pets Australia chief executive officer Karen Justice said she was very excited about being the first Australian independent pet retailer to offer a competition of this calibre.
