Family business wins franchisee of the year

GUTTER-VAC Tasmania, a locally owned and operated franchise, has received the ‘National Franchisee of the Year’ award at the Gutter-Vac annual conference, held recently in Brisbane.

The Tasmanian locals won out of a closely contested field of more than 80 franchisees around Australia.

Tasmania also won the Single Territory Award for 2018 and took home ‘Best Dressed’ at the awards dinner, which boasted a theme of ‘Roaring 20’s and Prohibition.’

Chris and Therese Dobson purchased the Tasmanian franchise in 2016 from another local couple who had been running it for 16 years.

Since taking over three years ago, Mr and Mrs Dobson have worked hard to grow the business while focusing on providing “excellent customer service.”

“Our customers are the life blood of our business – we love to keep them as our primary focus in every part of the business,” Mr Dobson said.

Mrs Dobson said they started from modest beginnings, putting new energy into a business that the previous owners had only been running part time.

“Now we have two full-time staff and are currently looking to employ a third so that we can provide more service for our customers,” she said.

Gutter-Vac Tasmania services the entire state, including regional areas of Tasmania.

It provides a range of services including cleaning solar panels, storm water pits, lichen treatments and can even vacuum out ceiling cavities.

It also provides pressure washing services, including roof and house cleans using Gutter-Vac’s EnviroClean products.

“We were thrilled to win Franchisee of the Year,” Mrs Dobson said.

“We didn’t even know we were in the running – it makes all the hard work over the past three years worthwhile.”
