Expo a one-stop shop for local activities

A COMMUNITY Expo showcasing the many groups, activities and hobbies on offer in the Lindisfarne area will be held at the Lindisfarne Community Activities Centre on Saturday 9 September.

The Expo will feature 25 groups from the local area promoting social, hobby, music, exercise, leisure and special interest groups for people of all ages and abilities.

The event will include a Rotary Club barbecue, face painting and light refreshments provided by the Lindisfarne Historical Society.

Lindisfarne Community Activities Centre management committee member Angela Coutts said the expo would promote the groups, activities and classes that frequently used the centre.

“We hope that this expo will benefit people wishing to discover new ways to participate in their community and help clubs which are in need of new members or volunteers with an opportunity to promote their groups,” she said.

“We will be using the stage to hold short demonstrations from participants every 30-minutes to showcase activities to entertain and wow our visitors.

“In addition to creating awareness of what goes on within the centre, we also hope to encourage a sense of community, encourage social connections through common interests and strengthen relationships between the residents and groups of Lindisfarne.”

Mrs Coutts said the Lindisfarne Community Activities Centre had around 20 community groups pass through its doors each week.

“The centre is home to the Lindisfarne Community Library and the Clarence City Band and is managed by a team of community-minded volunteers including Alderman John Peers and Alderman Peter Cusick,” she said.

“With support from the Clarence City Council and our many wonderful groups, clubs and organisations, we hope to make this an amazing event that will benefit our community.

“We encourage the public to come along and show their support to make this expo a great success.”

The Community Expo will be held from 11am-3pm on Saturday 9 September at the Lindisfarne Community Activities Centre, located at 37a Lincoln Street, Lindisfarne.

Entry is free, but a gold coin donation to the centre is welcomed.
