Enjoy life as it was meant to be

By YMCA of Hobart Inc.

EVER wondered where you can take the family on a hot day that has ample all-day parking, free barbecues, plenty of lawn to play on, lots of shade, safe swimming areas for everyone, and a giant waterslide?

The Glenorchy Pool ticks all of the boxes for having fun and relaxing with friends and family on warm, sunny days.

At the YMCA, the emphasis is not only on getting active and having fun doing it, but also very much on safety.

With recent Australian statistics showing that a lack of direct supervision by a parent or carer is believed to be a contributing factor in 100 per cent of all child (under 11 years old) drownings at public pools, our lifeguards and staff will be working hard to partner with families to ensure that everyone, especially young children under 11 years old, are safe.

The experts in water safety in Australia, the Royal Life Saving Society, recommend that one responsible adult can adequately supervise two children under six only if they are within arm’s reach, or four children from six to 11 years old provided they maintain constant visual supervision.

While this might seem a daunting task, it is an important and necessary one.

But don’t worry.

The YMCA staff at the pool will be there to assist and help all families learn about how to be safe in the water.

So, parents, when you come to the pool, put away your smart phones and other devices, slip into your swimming cossies and enjoy life as it was meant to be – fun in the sun with family and friends.

And remember, the pool staff are always there to assist you.

For more information, visit the pool on Anfield Street, Glenorchy or phone them on 6273 7667.
