Dreams come true for young Rosny dancer

YOUNG Rosny dancer Lilah Harding has taken out the title of junior champion in the Tasmanian regionals of the 2016 Follow Your Dreams dance competition held at Wrest Point from 8-9 October.

Lilah, who is a member of the House of Dance Studio in Kingston, was awarded the junior championship (10-years and under) title after receiving top scores in her events, which included a jazz solo, Broadway jazz solo and song and dance solo.

The nine-year-old also received the highest scoring item in the 10-years and under category and with her dance partner Sophie Newett, won both of her duo performances.

A national competition, Follow Your Dreams provides young children, teenagers and adults with the opportunity to hone their dancing skills by competing in a professional environment.

The judges, who travelled from Victoria and New South Wales, also handpicked Lilah to receive the Professional Potential Award, which is given to the dancer they believe is most likely to have a professional career.

Lilah said she was “so excited” to have won the title of junior champion and loved her whole Follow Your Dreams experience.

“The competition was very friendly and supportive and I liked being able to compete with my friends from around Tasmania,” she said.

“The stage was also really cute and, because the casino showroom is small, all the competitors were very friendly and helped each other.

“I did my best and am very grateful to my teachers and parents who have helped me achieve this.”

Lilah has recently returned from competing in the Starpower Nationals, an American competition that was held in Victoria in September.

She won all three of her jazz, lyrical and contemporary solos, received the Petite Elite Title and was named the highest petite scoring soloist.

Following her success at the Follow Your Dreams regional qualifying event, Lilah will now begin fundraising so she can compete in the national finals to be held in Ballarat, Victoria in January 2017.
