Community celebration for milestone anniversary

EMMANUEL Christian School has ushered in its 40th anniversary with a huge community celebration.

Emmanuel Christian School principal Scott Winkler said there was always going to be a great turn out for the event.

“We’re really excited to be celebrating the past 40 years of Christian education,” he said.

“We had a great turn out with more than 50 guests and around 300 people for the movies.

“We showed two child-friendly films in our Performing Arts Centre and on the giant 106.5FM outdoor theatre screen.

“It was great to entertain the wider community in this wonderful building and grounds.”

The school also held a school assembly that featured an interview with school alumna Rebecca Roberts and Emmanuel past principal of 21 years Dirk Petrusma.

“It was great to hear from Dirk – his contribution to the school has been huge,” Mr Winkler said.

“The school has changed so much since the early years when students helped answer the school phone.

“Dirk’s stories help us see just how far we’ve come as a school.”

Mr Winkler said Emmanuel was growing, drawing in students from across the Eastern Shore.

“We’ve had strong interest in kinder for 2020, but we’d always open for enrolments,” he said.

The event also featured free food and musical entertainment.

Emmanuel alumni are encouraged to visit the school’s Facebook page to learn more about the school’s 40th year celebrations.
