Bargains, books and family fun at this year’s Variety Monster Book Fair

ROWS of books, hidden treasures and family-friendly fun will take over Princes Wharf 1 this July as the Variety Monster Book Fair returns to Hobart.
Taking place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July, the Variety Monster Book Fair is the perfect day out for families, book lovers and bargain hunters to explore aisles packed with all manner of books from fiction to cookbooks and children’s books, as well as puzzles, DVDs, vinyl records and other hidden treasures waiting to be discovered.
Every purchase will help support Variety, the Children’s Charity to continue providing practical support, programs and opportunities for children across Tasmania who are sick, living with disability or experiencing disadvantage.
Variety Tasmania CEO Mohammad Aldergham said the Monster Book Fair had become a favourite on the Hobart event calendar, bringing together affordable family fun, sustainability and a good cause all in one place.
“Along with browsing for good reads, families can enjoy costumed characters, facepainting, balloon artistry, an animal nursery and themed activities throughout the weekend,” he said.
“Importantly, every dollar raised helps Variety continue expanding our programs, experiences and practical support we provide to children and their families who might otherwise miss out.”
Adding to the excitement on Saturday will be Sarah, Mick and Johnno from 7HOFM broadcasting live from the event, along with the Variety Spin4Kids fundraising spin-a-thon.
Led by the All Aerobics spin instructors, costumed teams will take on the challenge while high-energy music keeps the atmosphere pumping throughout the day.
“This year is shaping up to be our largest event ever,” Mr Aldergham said.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support of Tasmanians who donated their pre-loved books through the month of May and our long-term partners Shiploads, 7HOFM, Empire Couriers and PW1.”
Shiploads Managing Director Ashley Wilson said Variety’s Monster Bookfair was always a fantastic weekend packed full of school holiday fun for the kids and book lovers of all ages.
“We love being involved in the Monster Book Fair because it not only gives pre-loved books and games a second life but also provides affordable treasures for families who could really use a bargain right now, while raising funds for such an important cause,” he said.
“It’s wonderful to see so many people having fun, enjoying the Book Fair atmosphere and knowing they’re helping to give Tasmanian children better opportunities in life, regardless of their ability or background.”
