$11,000 boost helps male Clarence Pool more accessible

A new disability hoist at the Clarence Pool has allowed people of all abilities to safely enter the water for swimming.

The swim hoist at the YMCA Clarence Aquatic Centre was built after an $11,000 donation was received from the Rotary Club of Howrah and replaced an ageing unit that was longer fit for purpose.

City of Clarence Mayor Brendan Blomeley said the hoist would help people participate in physical activity and improve their health and wellbeing.

“The hoist allows people with mobility challenges, including those with paraplegia to enjoy swimming in a safe and dignified way,” he said.

“We encourage health providers, including carers and therapists to consider the hoist as part of their therapy and rehabilitation programs.

“For the first time, children with disability can now also safely access the pool for swimming.”

Mayor Blomeley said the equipment was much needed for the community.

“Our thanks go out to the Rotary Club for their time and generosity in working hard to fundraise for the new swim hoist,” he said.

“Their donation is a great example of community fundraising that addresses a need in our community, providing inclusive access to a swimming pool in Clarence.”
