EASTERN SHORE: WE'VE GOT MORE!
WELL, the festivals continued on apace through March. The Open Southern Vineyards weekend was brilliant, and the Dragon and I chanced upon a winery I'd never heard of. Drew Wines near Tea Tree had tastings, and also some very interesting food. The venison ($9) was sensational. It had been barbecued to perfection. They also offered hare and partridge.
The winery will open by appointment - if you get a group together I am sure you will be able to snaffle an invite to the barbecued venison. The prices are certainly terrific. Kelly, a delightful dog, will collect any leftovers. We were also entertained by two lovely cockerels and some cheeky guinea fowl.

The owners, Robert and Debra Drew, can be contacted on 6268 1528. You will find them at 23 Merrieworth Road at Tea Tree.

We also dropped in to Puddleduck Vineyard, which was looking fabulous. I bought some Sydney Swans jellybeans (they even had Collingwood ones). You will find the Puddleduckers at 992 Richmond Road, Richmond (6260 2301) or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Then ‘Louise’ threw a flat tyre and the wonderful people at the Caltex servo at Richmond came to the rescue and fixed the tyre for a very small amount of money – and they were flat out at the time.

ESTIA was in full swing on Sunday 4 March. Based around the Hellenic Club and Hall in Federal Street, it was a ripper. Ran into so many people it became difficult to find time to eat. One of my daughters headed for the lima beans with meatballs, her partner ordered the capsicum stuffed with mince and other goodies, and I just cannot go passed the spit roast. The lamb was long gone by 1.30 pm however, the spit roasted pork with tzatziki, salad and served on pita bread was delicious. Like all the Estia festivals, there was heaps of gossip, really good food and interesting wines. I ended up back at Joan and John
Mahindroo's (hospitality mates from way back) place to watch the Billy Thorpe tribute. I know everyone's a critic, however Olivia Newton-John's version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow was just awful. The man himself rounded out the tribute with a videoed version and there wasn't a dry eye in the apartment.

THE Taste Of The Huon held, this year, at Ranelagh was fun. We went on the Monday holiday and it was freezing cold and miserable weatherwise. But we still had fun. One of the buskers, a very funny young bloke who juggled a chainsaw, a ball and a samurai sword was terrific. He also juggled flaming torches and the looks on the little kids' faces were a joy to behold. Kate Caire was there with some fabulous yoghurts with different toppings. I loved the yoghurt with lemon
curd. Zig had a lamb wrap, I grabbed some garlic mussels, but the  best dish on the day?  The hot smoked oysters from Get Shucked, the wonderful oyster people from Bruny Island. The Dragon loved her curry from Melaka  from Franklin. (You'll find them at 3422 Huon Highway, Franklin 6266 3328). Edyth Langham and daughter Vanessa were perambulating around the oval, both dealing brilliantly well with the weather. When the sun came out, it was terrific.
