FESTIVALE
Launceston City Park

WAMMY and I caught the Walker Coach up to Launceston for Festivale. I think it was at Stockman's Stud where the sign, GO SWANS, written in large rocks was pointed out by our affable driver. Our driver had also thought ahead and had brought plastic ponchos ($2 each) because of the weather forecast. However, for all the wet weather, it was an outstandingly good day. It was worth the trip to see the Force 10 RAAF (Laveron-based) band who were terrific. There were plenty of marquees and chairs, so you were only ‘in the weather’ when bolting from one food stand to the next.
We tried the tempura mushrooms first of all. Rosti Chalet was there, so we went with the ham and gruyere rosti. Waji Spiby had gone walkabout from his stand however,  his staff looked after us with some scallops on the half shell ($2 each) and they were scrumptious. Wammy gave the Coffee Republic four stars for coffee, and five stars  for the staff's sense of humour! Island Berries had a raspberry pannacotta with raspberry coulis which was a knockout, and a delicious summer pudding. The volunteer workers were fantastic, there were plenty of Kevins (the new term for portaloos, apparently) and the information guides were tremendous.
