CLARENDON Vale Neighbourhood Centre, celebrated the recent Neighbourhood House week with a full week of programs on display. Lots of people joined in the activities and new people visited the centre for the very first time. Neighbourhood House week is designed to bring local people together to work on what is needed in their community. The program is run by the community for the community. ![]() From left, Clarendon Vale Neighbourhood House representatives, Linda Nicholson, Anita Gray, Vonnie Bradford, Simon Paul with Minister Lara Giddings. The Clarendon Vale program included a , full of ‘messy’ fun for the kids, free Karate classes by Shotokan Karate Budokai, and a fantastic pingo event. The final day saw the launching of the ‘Walk and Lunch’ booklet by Minister for Health and Human Services, Lara Giddings. The launch was attended by many community people in the Clarendon Vale area including the Greens Nick McKim Clarence councillors Tony Mulder and Don Cusik and representatives from the offices of Senator Carol Brown and Julie Collins, Federal member for Franklin. Minister Giddings spoke highly of the booklet and reiterated the message of people maintaining a healthy level of fitness. This could be achieved by exercising for at least 30 minutes a day combined with healthy eating. The ‘Walk and Lunch’ program has been operating for more than 12 months. The program involves residents participating on a walk somewhere around southern Tasmania, then preparing and eating a healthy lunch either at the centre or at the walk. As there were a number of mothers with toddlers or babies, the walks chosen needed to accommodate young children or prams. The group was successful in obtaining funding through Women Tasmania, Department of Premier and Cabinet, and with the assistance of Senator Carol Brown’s office in the printing, a number of booklets are available.
