Comment invited on Risdon Brook draft plan
TASMANIANS have until Friday 1  August to comment on the Draft Risdon Brook drinking water catchment management plan, released recently by Hobart Water.

The draft plan was written in conjunction with a stakeholder group to identify potential risks to this large drinking water catchment and find ways to minimise them.
Hobart Water’s CEO Dr Christine Mucha said protecting the Rison Brook Catchment was integral to the continued supply of quality water.

“The Risdon Brook catchment contains Hobart Water’s second largest water storage area – Risdon Brook Dam.  This dam is a vital part of Hobart’s water supply, providing a total storage of around 3600 megalitres,” she said.

A stakeholder group – comprising landowners, business owners, local industry and recreational user groups link with activities around the Risdon Brook catchment – took part in the process.

“The stakeholder group was critical to the plan’s development and we thank them for their commitment and their valuable input,” she said.

“The plan represents a commitment by Hobart Water and other stakeholders to preserve the high quality of drinking water while improving the natural catchment area.”

Once the draft plan is finalised following the public comment period, the identified management actions will be implemented with the assistance of other key stakeholders.
