| Nando’s peri peri is very very good |

Nando's Eastlands Entertainment Centre 7 - 9 Bligh Street Rosny 6244 3165 THIS is fairly new to the Eastern Shore. Its ‘older"’ sister establishment is in North Hobart. I was going to a film, so dropped in to try the Nando Chicken Wrap ($6.50). They bill themselves as peri-peri chicken restaurants (and they seem to be everywhere in Victoria), and the flame-grilled chicken comes with various levels of heat. Starting with lemon and herb and going through mild, hot and extra hot, the choice is yours. The place was busy, with many contented diners. You can dine indoors or outdoors, and on a glorious autumn day, it was a pleasure to sit outside. They also serve various chicken burgers (which are not for the faint-hearted) and they cater to vegetarians with burgers or pitas. You can choose from four different salads and there are nine different side dishes. They only serve two desserts, a chocolate mousse ($3.95) or panatas, a Portuguese custard tart ($3.25). There are also four different ‘hatchling’ meals for children. On a follow up visit I ordered the quarter chicken, again, lemon and herb ($5.50) with coleslaw ($3.50). It was tremendous value and screamingly delicious. Some of the Rosny College students were there, outdoing each other with the peri peri sauce on their chicken. This sauce is, apparently, a real blaster. They can also cater for one large group on the banquette and chairs.(There would be room for about 20 - with a few skinny minnies or mickies on the banquette side). There are also twos and fours in the table arrangements. Ask about their outside catering. Smiling staff, happy customers - such a change from its previous incarnation as a Korean restaurant. Lindisfarne Motor Inn 101 - 105 East Derwent Highway, Lindisfarne 6243 8666 HAVE you some early business to do on the Eastern Shore? Well, why not consider having a business breakfast at the Lindisfarne Motor Inn. Prices range from $5 to $9.50, and breakfast is available from 7:30 am till 9 am The views over the Derwent. are delightful Kuzina 213 Elizabeth Street, Hobart 6234 9901 WELL, it's not every night you are sitting in a restaurant, looking out at the world, and some lost clown passes out on your mate's classic car bonnet. Oh, what a night! The Mysteries, the Dragon and I were dining at Kuzina - it's an interesting set up as it is a training ground for young hospitality workers. We were looked after by Shannon from the East Coast. The Mysteries had the tasting platter, a great showcase of Tasmanian food. I opted for a King Prawn entrée followed by an entree serve of spring rolls. The Dragon ordered oysters, which turned into spring rolls, without any reference to the Dragon regarding the change, which I found odd to say the least. Mrs Mystery opted for the steak, as did the Dragon. Mr Mystery had quail. The restaurant is beautifully appointed with proper linen, good glassware and it all works for the makeover of the old Casablanca. Smolt 2 Salamanca Square 6224 2554 SLOW cooked lamb and pasta was unbelievably good at Smolt last month, as we surveyed the to’ings and fro’ings of the throng in Salamanca Square. It was a perfect autumn day, too, so jackets were discarded early. The staff are just terrific. The bread, baked in house, is absolutely sensational as is the oil and balsamic dip to go with it. The restaurant provides newspapers so you can browse while you wait for your dining partners. Quick and cheap meals 4 Lunch upper level, Eastlands Shopping Centre 6211 4800 I HAD the ham and tasty cheese sandwich ($3) while waiting for the bus at this busy little cafe. They do all sorts of fresh sandwiches and baguettes with some great combinations to cater for meat eaters and vegetarians, sushi, sweet treats, smoothies and much more. The staff are extremely helpful, and like most good cafes these days, they have the papers so you can see what is happening in your world. Well worth a visit after a busy shopping expedition. Rain Check Lounge 392 - 394 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart 6234 5975 IF you are after a quick and delicious snack, try the tapas menu at Rain Check Lounge. We decided to try four tapas (all $6.50 each). Baked haloumi with herbs, felafel with minted yoghurt, salt and pepper white bait with aioli, and garlic mushrooms which were all just right. To be honest, I would have quite happily just had the white bait, had I been by myself! Yum. SOMETHING DIFFERENT Boat House Cornelian Bay 6228 9289 EVERY Monday night the Boat House is offering its full a la carte menu in smaller portions. You choose three for $30.
