| First tennis tournament a great success |
THE Westpac Sorell junior tennis tournament was successfully held for the first time last month. Bryana Mcilwain and Thomas Boxall give each other a ‘high five’ for effort. The first-ever junior tournament of players aged between 9 and 16 and hosted by the Sorell Tennis Club, was well patronised with 35 participants from all ages. Organisers say the tournament was a great success and with continued support by local businesses and individuals, is likely to be an annual event.  10-year old Tayla Mcilwain shows off her racquet with pride. They thank a number of sponsors including Westpac Sorell, Sorell Council, Inghams, Woolworths, Dominoes Pizza, Video Ezy, Trendy Bake, McDonalds, Pembroke Hotel, Sorell Wine Cellars and Barilla Putt and Play. Results: 10 doubles: Joel Harrison and Matthew Harris (winners); Michael Kerr and Thomas Arnold (runners up). 10 singles: Matthew Harris (winner); Joel Harrison (runner up). 8+9 doubles: Bradley Dunn and James Bender (winners); Deakin Broad and Jeremy Chynoweth (runners up). 8+9 singles: Bradley Dunn (winner); Darcey Navikckas (runner up) 6+7 doubles: Bryana Mcilwain and Thomas Boxall (winners); Tim Chynoweth and Connor Jimmieson (runners up). 6+7 singles: Jay Tanase (winner); Bryana Mcilwain (runners up).
