Birth to four boom at Bellerive

THE strong participation rates of young children in the Bellerive Primary School Birth to four program has been very positive.

The session held weekly each Thursday morning from 9 am to 11 am has proven to be an enjoyable experience for both parents and their children with numbers on the continual increase.

Each session currently attracts 60 parents and children who engage in a variety of play and discovery sessions based on the Reggio Emilia approach of play, inquiry and questioning.

The coordinator of the program is Sharon Jones who is deeply committed to the development of young children and working in partnership with parents and community organisations to bring about positive outcomes.

“I enjoy the interaction with the children and their parents and providing a program which caters for the varied needs of the children attending our sessions,” Sharon Jones said.

From the school’s perspective the advantages of the program are numerous. Providing rich learning experiences to children, assisting parents become co-teachers with their children and aiding the transition to kindergarten are some of the key benefits.

In addition to the birth to four session, children turning four this year are also invited to the pre kinder sessions held each Wednesday morning at 9 am.

The dual sessions each week provide a huge advantage to students when they commence their formal schooling as evidenced by the smooth transition this year by kindergarten students.

Both the birth to four and pre kinder programs are free and interested parents in the local Bellerive community should simply turn up for the sessions and enjoy the experience.
