| Major buses boost for Eastern Shore |
|
METRO is proposing to establish a seven-day-a-week, high frequency transport corridor between Hobart, Eastlands and the Shoreline Shopping Centre based on its own research and feedback from Eastern Shore residents.
Manager strategic planning Peter Kruup said Metro was undertaking a detailed review of all Eastern Shore services between Risdon Vale and Lauderdale. “We have found through our own surveys and research that more people are catching Metro buses to and from the Rosny Park bus mall as Eastlands has become a more attractive destination for shoppers, particularly at weekends,” he said. “While we still have some considerable work to do as part of the review and Metro is still to examine all options, based on early feedback and research, Metro’s Eastern Shore service s will make greater use of Rosny Park. “As a result more buses will start and stop trips at Rosny Park and, if possible, we will increase the frequency of services to Eastern Shore suburbs.” Mr Kruup said at the conclusion of the review, Metro would publish new easy to read colour timetables and would introduce new, more relevant routes. “Our overall aim is to increase patronage and get more people travelling on our buses,” he said. “One easy way to achieve this is through the introduction of simplified bus routes and easier to remember timetables.” Mr Kruup said Metro was keen to hear from Eastern Shore residents during the review process. “We value input and feedback from customers and are seeking their ideas and comments,” he said. “Feedback is very welcome an important element of our planning process to improve our services and make the more relevant for our customers.” Early feedback received by Metro has revealed that customers want more frequent services, more weekend services and buses to start earlier and leave later. Mr Kruup said Metro would be working hard to meet these expectations. “We will also be looking at the various new housing areas that have opened up on the Eastern Shore and will extend our services to these areas where possible,” he said.
