Prossers on the Beach, Lower Sandy Bay 6225 2276

THE Troikas, including the Bollinger Bolshevik, arrived from overseas, and I joined them for lunch at Prossers on the Beach at Lower Sandy Bay for an absolutely smashing meal.

The Troikas only get back to Hobart every three or five years, and we always go to Prossers. Nicki Prosser, Stuart's wife, who runs front of house, looked after us extremely well. William, the nine-year-old Troika, ordered the seafood spaghettini without the seafood which caused no problems in the kitchen where Sam was doing great things.

The head Russian ordered the live crayfish out of the tank (lovely how you look after yourself when on holidays! - $90), the Bollinger Bolshevik ordered the split and grilled tiger prawns ($38), and I decided to have two entrees — the oysters grilled with macadamia pesto ($16) and the yellow fin tuna sashimi salad ($16) and they were grand. The winner, of course, was the cray.

What a knockout. I pinched a few legs to get a taste of this wondrous dish. I am not a big desserter however, there was a soft meringue with passionfruit, raspberry caramel and vanilla anglaise ($13) for me and my mate, and one of Stuart's signature dishes, his vanilla bean and lemon brulee ($14) for the Bollinger Bolshevik, and the youngest of the Troikas went for the three textured Lindt chocolate mousse cake with a coffee custard ($14). What a fantastic meal it was. We waddled down to the river to watch young William bowling rocks, then it was off to the Hotel where they were staying for dad and son to play mini golf, while mum and I watched from the safety of chairs in the shade.
