Spooky room a big hit at Lindisfarne North fair
THE Spooky Room was a huge hit with children at the recent Lindisfarne North Primary School Fair. Children and their parents queued to enter the room which was decorated with paper spiders, scary masks and ultra violet light.

An Egyptian mummy lent by an obliging parent, spooky music and a wicked witch added to the overall effect.

Gumboot tossing was also a popular activity with a range of gumboots available for young and old.

Other activities included sponge throwing, handball competitions, Kids Kingdom, Face painting and hair braiding, treasure tins and a peddlers’ parade.

Patrons treated themselves to lunches of seafood chowder, noodles, spring rolls, hot roast rolls, pancakes and barbecue encouraged by the delicious aromas.

The fair, held prior to Easter, raised almost $11 000 for the school. The money has been set aside to purchase furniture and materials for the library, which will be refurbished in Term 2.

“While the fair was highly successful in raising money to support the school, its real success was in building the social capital in our school community,” said principal Philippa Roberts.

“The local community gave us fantastic support through donations and in-kind help, while parents, children and staff worked really hard to ensure it was a great day out for families.”
