| New sewerage pumping station for Cambridge |

CLARENCE City Council has accepted a tender from Andrew Walter Construction to construct a sewerage pumping station and two new sections of gravity sewerage main at Cambridge for $1.2 million.
Clarence Mayor Jock Campbell said the works were part of an ongoing program by Council to provide infrastructure to the rapidly developing Cambridge industrial area and to meet the needs of an ever expanding city. “The works will include the construction of a sewer main from the existing upper lagoon to the lower Cambridge waste water treatment lagoons as well as the construction of a gravity sewer main from the lower lagoons to the new Cambridge sewerage pumping station,” Alderman Campbell said. The works, in conjunction with the construction of the new Cambridge waste water treatment plant, would result in four lower standard waste water treatment plants being closed and replaced with a state-of-the-art infrastructure. “The closure of these treatment systems and their replacement with a modern plant that treats water to a tertiary standard and is linked to an effluent reuse scheme, will ensure no treated effluent reaches Barilla Bay and that the quality of any effluent discharged to lower Pittwater will not cause environmental harm,” Ald Campbell said. “In addition, the associated reticulation network to link the former lagoon sites to the new treatment works will enable a number of residential properties to connect to the sewerage network.” Works are due to commence next month and are expected to be completed in August.
