2008 marks the 25th anniversary of the round the river community fun run and walk. The 25th annual Pace Financial Services community fun run and walk, which will be held on Sunday 20 April, remains the only event of its kind run on the Eastern Shore with the Eastern Suburbs Athletics Club again hosting the event.
Courses range from 2.5km (aimed at under 13 participants), 5km and 10km. The 5km and 10km events should appeal to all runners and walkers, and usually also attract the best runners and race walkers in the state. Arguably Tasmania’s favourite female athlete, Donna McFarlane, who won the 5km event event in 2007, expects to run it again as part of her lead up to racing in Qatar in May. 2007 men’s 10km champion, Kim Gillard from Launceston is also expected to defend his title. Former Olympian Kylie Risk won the women’s 10km event in 2007 and it is hoped she will be a starter in this year’s race.
Medals will be awarded for first place getters and all entrants have the opportunity to receive spot prizes at the event’s conclusion. All participants under 13 years in the 2.5km race will receive prizes.
Further details and an entry form are on the Eastern Suburbs website (www.easternsuburbs.org.au) or contact Dee Atkinson, phone 6248 1496. Entry is on the day. Events start at 9am (2.5km underage event) and 9.30am.
