THE Emmanuel Christian School community was delighted to receive a Federal Government grant of $20,000, which will help to provide high-quality educational programs for the school.
Emmanuel Christian School applied for the grant to buy new concert band instruments for the rapidly expanding kinder to grade 10 music program. ![]() Emmanuel year eight students showing off their new instruments, from left, Tegan Andersen, William Cooper, Meghan Gibb, William White, and Joanna Hutchinson. The school council also helped to raise a further $10,000 showing the generous commitment of parents to the program. The school can now provide instruments for every child in years five, six and seven for the duration of their music program. Younger students also have the opportunity to develop their interest in music by experiencing a greater assortment of instruments during their weekly music classes. Emmanuel has bought a range of instruments including acoustic guitars, trumpets, trombones, saxophones, flutes, drums and electric bass. Head of school Simon Matthews said he saw the government grant as a great opportunity to further develop an already high quality kinder to year 10 music program. “The students are really excited and their parents are very thankful that their children receive tuition and get to use an instrument as part of their school fees.” A selection of students will be performing at the upcoming Emmanuel Christian School open night on Wednesday 19 March from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm. The open night is a great opportunity for members of the community and parents considering enrolment to get to know the school and see the school in action. “At Emmanuel we are all about community, both within the school and in the broader sense,” Mr Matthews said. “We encourage parent involvement in all aspects of the school. We aim to equip our students to serve the greater community, either by playing music for a local retirement home, or by involvement in our annual mission trip to Fiji.” The public is invited to meet the staff and enjoy displays and performances by students from all grades at the open night. There will be live music provided by the Clarence Band and the Emmanuel School Band, and lots of activities including drama presentations, school tours and a free sausage sizzle.
