Pecora Cafe, 59 Devlyns Road, Birchs Bay (6234 6517)
PECORA is an interesting name and means sheep. For trivia buffs, the film  La Pecora Nera (1968) was directed by Luciano Salse (the film was also known as The Black Sheep). However, my favourite bit of trivia is the Pecora Escarpment in Eastern Antarctica, which I am sure has never seen a sheep in its life. However, to the review.

A very enjoyable meal was had at Pecora Cafe with the Dragon recently.

The restaurant perches on top of the sheep's cheese outlet, with views to Birchs Bay. Great food, great staff and impeccable service. We started with stripey trumpeter served with an interesting and yummy tomato sorbet, followed by pasta and squid for the Dragon and a large slice of pork shoulder for me. This was a totally enjoyable meal.

The sheep attached to Grandvewe come wandering up the drive every so often calling to be milked. After the meal, you can try some of the sheep's cheeses (which are just yummy). Luke Burgess, the chef, is doing some interesting food and the meal was delightful. When you consider his background, having, I believe, finished his apprenticeship with Tetsuya's in Sydney, I'm not
surprised. Beaut food.
