| Linda has that little bit Xtra to make your shopping day |
|
YOU can’t help noticing the influence that Linda Brown has already had over the Shoreline Shopping Centre in the short time that she has been a part of the complex. Linda’s new, perfectly located boutique Xtras/Direct is in prime position as you walk towards the ramp into Woolworths supermarket. Just a glance through the window and you can see all of the fantastic flair and dynamism that is Linda – strong and sassy colours that are perfectly coordinated so that you don’t even have to think about your accessorising. ![]() Linda Brown can help you with all of those ‘xtras’ for your wardrobe. Her specialist boutique offers everything from a huge array of beads, necklaces, rings, zany watches, pendants and earrings, fabulous belts, interesting fun shoes, bags of all shapes and sizes, and a magnificent range of Lounge day apparel and IYD evening wear. Linda knows style and how to help customers with whatever they want. She says she is passionate about service and it certainly shows in everything she does. “I decided to open the shop after some extensive research into what women want here on the Eastern Shore.” Linda spent four months in a ‘trial’ store in the complex, which certainly gave her a clear understanding of particular shopping needs. She also did some research of the shopping habits of women as they entered the centre to find the right spot. “I have found in my many years in the fashion industry that it is really important to listen to what women are saying they need, particularly when they say they have ‘searched’ everywhere to find a particular something. There are obvious gaps in the market and if you keep your ear to the ground, you can find that niche and it really shows you care for your customer. “I am really a stickler on good customer service which some people only pay lip service to. It is also important to give customers a chance to see what you have in stock without ‘hassling’ them the minute they walk in.” Linda can also provide one-on-one support for women who need advice on their wardrobe. Xtras/Direct is very much geared to more mature women and Linda has plenty to offer this market segment. “I think women are frustrated when they are looking for clothes and accessories that are only marketed for the younger generation. I have tried to fill this void with what I am offering. “I have also tried wherever possible, to offer alternatives to some of the bigger jewellery designers so I have been making up special designs using popular beads. “ At the same time Linda sources some wonderful designs from South Africa (mostly sterling silver), Europe Vietnam, Bangkok and of course Australia. She proudly displays some of the work of young fashion designers who are designing with a French influence. And she is also proud to have found an 85 year-old local designer who is producing some magnificent contemporary-designed scarves and wraps that have an international feel. Linda particularly thanks the efforts of Business East in helping to get her established. “Business East has been a great influence and source of advice and John Beard is always passing on tips and help for which I am really grateful.” As for her passion for business, Linda can not speak highly enough about business in Tasmania. “I am a firm believer that if you want something that you should go for it. Tasmania is the land of small business and there are plenty of opportunities – we just need to make the most of them.” Don’t forget to pay Linda a visit at Xtras/Direct of call her on 6247 6677. You’ll be pleased you did.
