| Summer of athletics is off and running |
ATHLETICS South summer season of track and field competition began at the end of last month at the Domain Athletics Centre and the Eastern suburbs Athletic Club is keen to hear from anyone interested in starting athletics. The season, which runs for 16 rounds of competition, concludes in mid March and competition commences at 1pm each Saturday.
Eastern Suburbs is the only senior athletics club on the Eastern Shore and caters for athletes of all ages and abilities/disabilities. There are no minimum requirements and athletes can compete in either track or field events or both. ![]() Talented Eastern Suburbs thrower, Hamish Peacock, who recently won silver in the javelin at the World Youth Games in the Czech Republic. The club provides free coaching at the Domain on Tuesdays and Thursdays for any athletes who register. Under-12 and under -3 little athletes are able to dual register with the club for $30. The winter cross-country season concluded in September with Northern Suburbs Athletic Club, taking out the men’s premiership and Sandy Bay Harriers victorious in the women’s. Northern Suburbs’ Grant Page was again male athlete of the season, with Andrea Marquardt (Sandy Bay) taking out the female athlete of the season award. The Eastern Suburbs club athletes took out three major trophies this season (Peter Kleywegt, under-20 road champion; Sharon Coad, over-35 road champion; Dee Atkinson, over 35 cross-country champion).
