Aaron wins coach of the year award
THE Swimming Tasmania junior coach of the year award was awarded to Aaron Lightfoot early last month.

Aaron is the nationally accredited coach of the Eastern Shore Sharks swimming club Inc and a former Australian swimmer who is dedicated to building up both the Club’s membership and swimming performance.
The Eastern Shore Sharks Swimming Club was formerly known as the Lindisfarne amateur swimming club and changed its name in early March of this year to be more generic with the Eastern Shore.  The club offers a comprehensive training program covering all ages.

The club is based at the Oceana Health & Fitness Centre where it is able to have the training space needed for a growing club.  While it is a separate organisation from Oceana Health & Fitness Centre, it is being generously sponsored by the centre.

Aaron has introduced day camps which have proven to be very popular with young members where they receive DVDs demonstrating their swimming techniques.  Two camps have been held in the past 12 months.

The club held a statewide medal meet at Tattersall’s Hobart Aquatic Centre in June of this year for swimmers from eight years and under to open.  Competitors came from throughout Tasmania with 900 entries being received.  This was the first event held under the club’s new name, and was extremely successful.  Pembroke MLC Allison Ritchie, who is a very strong supporter of the club, attended and presented medals with the club gaining gold, silver and bronze medals.  Allison also donated towards the cost of its new banner.

Social club nights are held on the first Friday of every month starting at 5.30 pm.  Members and non-members are welcome to come along and swim in any of the events.  This is a fun evening followed by a sausage sizzle.
