| Couple has finger on the pulse of hip and modern dance |
JAYNE King and her business partner Garry Mansfield opened Pulse Dance School in Bellerive because they thought it was time a hip, young and modern dance school was opened.
“We felt that there was a real need to start something fresh and exciting that had a strong emphasis on new dance styles and techniques in order to start a whole new dance generation.![]() Some of the Pulse Dance School jazz students showing their enthusiasm. “We put a lot of time, effort and practice into choreographing new dance routines and we order dancing DVDs from the US so that we are always up-to-date with the latest dance techniques and routines,” Miss King said. Pulse dance school was opened in February this year and currently has 115 students. “We have a wide variety of dance classes on offer, including Jazz, Song and Dance, Kick, Hip-Hop, Neo and of course Ballet. “The most popular classes are Hip-Hop for the kids and Jazz in the adult section, we cater to anyone, boys and girl from the ages of two and a half up to 45 years old. “Tiny tot classes are also becoming more and more popular too, we have 22 students in that class and they are between the ages of two and five. Miss King attributes the increasing popularity of dance to the latest television programs. “I just think that basically everyone is becoming more aware of the importance of keeping fit and healthy and the latest programs in the media like Dancing with the Stars have highlighted the physical and social benefits of dancing,” Miss King said. Classes operate on Thursdays between 3:30 and 7:30 and discounts apply to dance students who enrol in more than one class. “We try to ensure that costs are kept to a minimum for students and their parents, because dancing can be very expensive. “All costumes for competitions, concerts and eisteddfods are hired so that parents do not have to worry about those additional expenses,” Miss King said. Jayne and Garry have high expectations for their new dance school and hope to achieve their goal of reaching 200-250 students within a few years. “One day we aim to become fulltime dance teachers so we can continually encourage kids to get out there, participate have fun and hopefully help to reduce childhood obesity,” Miss King said.
