Coming to grips with gout
THE Arthritis Foundation of Tasmania will be hosting a community information session on gout this month.  The session will feature local consulting rheumatologist Dr Helen Cooley as the keynote speaker.  Gout is a common form of arthritis affecting more than 70,000 Australians.  The condition, which can be a largely misunderstood one, is caused by a buildup of uric acid.  An attack can be extremely painful and can come on quite suddenly.  Without treatment an attack can last for about a week.

Jackie Slyp, Arthritis Tasmania chief executive officer said: “There are many simple lifestyle measures that can be taken to help minimise the chances of an attack.  Dr Cooley will speak about these lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise.”

The session will be held on Wednesday 28 November at Hadley’s Hotel in Murray Street.  Entry is via gold coin donation.  Register with the Arthritis Foundation on 1800 011 041 as places are strictly limited.  The session will begin at 12.30pm for an hour.
