U16/646 Sandy Bay Rd Sandy Bay 6225 4644 THE legal beagle and I had a funny experience - I had booked us into a restaurant in Hampden Road, Battery Point for lunch and when I arrived in pouring rain, it was shut. So the beagle came and saved me and fell about laughing because I looked like a drowned rat. He came up with the idea of having lunch at the Beach House and it was an inspired choice. A French provincial fish soup for him, and the pork belly for me! Well, he won hands down. The soup was nothing short of brilliant, and one of the best soups I've had the pleasure of tasting in Hobart. Sam Ling, the chef, (which, when you think about it, that's a fantastic name for a chef who does a fabulous fish soup) used tarragon and thyme, garlic, onion, wine, tomatoes, and secret chef's business! The base is cooked for five hours. The fish and mussels were cooked to perfection. The pork, with good vegies, was enjoyable too. The views are lovely. The place was packed. The prices are reasonable, and an extremely busy staff looked after us well.
