Tasmanian Cricket Association Dining Room, Bellerive Oval (6282 0400) LOOKING for somewhere to celebrate during the festive season? If your sporting group, which is associated with a sport on the ground, wants a function space with a difference, why not consider the TCA dining room. The views are spectacular. You obviously can't book the space if there is a cricket game on, but at other times your sporting club can have a very beaut function there. Contact the TCA on the above number and ask for the functions office. Darjoh's, 60 Cambridge Road (6244 6002) THIS little restaurant is a ripper. It also has the advantage of being a BYO. The menu is Asian-influenced and really has something for everyone. You must book, though, because it is always busy. It's good value for money and if you haven't been there, you should check it out. Jean-Pascal Patisserie 34 - 36 Cambridge Road (6244 1077) THIS place is one for smaller groups of diners, or else go mad and book the whole place out. The breads are fantastic. You can view desserts in the glass cases at the front of the restaurant (feel those calories packing in!). There are now three J-P patisseries in Hobart, but I still like the one at Bellerive the best. The terrine is terrific, as is the pate. Waterfront Hotel Cambridge Road (6244 2333) HERE you can have your choice of the bistro meals downstairs at Sails, or upstairs in the restaurant. Again, the views are smashing and you can choose from different menus. The upstairs venue is a bit more up market, but I like the ambience of Sails because you are closer to the water and the wondrous traffic on the bay. The staff are friendly and helpful and you can check out both the menus before deciding on where to have your festive season function. And don't forget a trip to the bottle shop to see Greg - if he can't help you, nobody can. Greg will help you organise your festive season goodies. After all, it's the only bottle shop in Bellerive Village. Lemongrass and Lime, 44 Cambridge Road (6244 1443) THIS is another great little restaurant with terrific staff. The food is good too. Again, you should book. The soups range from mild to hot and are very good, as are the main courses. Golden Junk Restaurant, 9 Cambridge Road (6244 4116) THIS restaurant is another gem in the Bellerive crown. The menu is varied and you can organise all sorts of surprises for your festive season guests. It's upstairs, though, so no wheelchair access. Talk to them about any special needs. Whisk Cafe Restaurant, 38 Cambridge Road (6244 8806) WHISK has an open plan kitchen, so you are very aware of what is happening in the kitchen. The meals exit the kitchen quickly, and the waiting staff are very helpful.
