Sorell defence community honoured
FEDERAL Member for Lyons Dick Adams recently hosted two Australian Defence Medal Presentations for members of the Lyons community in Sorell. “This medal is recognition of the commitment and contribution made by those serving in the Defence Forces.  It’s important that everyone who has made this commitment to our nation be recognised for their efforts.

Over one million Australians are eligible for the Australian Defence Medal. The medal was established to recognise ADF Regular and Reserve personnel who have demonstrated their service to the nation by serving four years or their initial enlistment period, whichever is the lesser, since the end of World War II. Both volunteers and national servicemen are eligible.

Everyone who has served for four years or their initial enlistment period is eligible to apply for an Australian Defence Medal, including those who are medically discharged or due to permanent injury are unable to complete their initial period of enlistment.   Further information on applications is available from RSL’s and other
