It’s not a bird or plane but a flying devil
THE Fly@42°South Kite Festival on Sunday 4 November at Wentworth Park will see the launch of a huge Tasmanian devil kite.  The kite will be launched to help raise awareness and much-needed funds toward solving the mysterious devil facial tumour disease that threatens the survival of the unique Tasmanian species.

The devil kite is the brainchild of Orford couple Genevieve Duhig and Allan Parish and was designed by one of Australia’s premier kite designers Phil McConnachie of Adelaide.

Genevieve and Allan invested thousands of dollars and 60 hours of labour to build the seven by four metre kite.

They hope the kite will be a useful tool in drawing attention to the continued battle against the disease.

Visitors who attend the Fly@42°South Kite Festival can bring along their own kite, buy a kite or create their own design under the supervision of the festival’s kite makers.

The festival will also display the Rokkaku Fighting Kites accompanied by the powerful sounds of Taiko Drummers.

Traditional children’s races and games, music, free face painting and a selection of craft activities and market stalls will also complement the kite flying.

Other activities including the climbing wall Vertigo will make another popular appearance.

The Fly@42° South Kite Festival is a great opportunity to admire the kites and enjoy a free and entertaining activity with the whole family.
