The Mulberry Cottage and gardens were designed to create a rustic, English countryside atmosphere in order to reflect ‘olde worlde’ charm. Mulberry Cottage was built behind Grannie Rhodes cottage, circa 1830, in the historic Georgian village of Richmond. “Visitors are often tricked into believing that the house was truly built during the 1800s,” Ms Cooper said. “Mulberry cottage offers a French inspired boudoir, an old English room and two standard attic rooms. “The cottage is surrounded by beautiful valley views and a glass of wine is offered on arrival.” During the summer season of 2003, several accommodation establishments were desperate for Miriam to take on extra visitors. She had previously operated the successful Holm Lodge B&B in Bellerive and was more than delighted to provide accommodation in her cottage. Minister for Small Business and Tourism Honorary Fran Bailey said the awards were an opportunity to acknowledge the drive and commitment required by hard-working small business operators to succeed. “These awards will also enhance the reputation of the business at a national level, “The small business champion entrepreneur award honours unique individuals who have attained extraordinary business success,” Ms Bailey said. The Tasmanian winners will represent their category against other states on a national level at the Australian Small Business Champion Awards, which are to be held in Sydney on November 3.
