TASMANIAN health food outlet, 4 Lunch was a proud supporter of this year’s walk to work day and Eastlands’ 4 Lunch staff made sure that they were very much part of the action on the day.![]() Eastlands staff get into the swing of walk to work day from left Nat Belbin, Jenna Horton, Sasha Bie, Danyelle Thompson and Anna McDonald. Staff got into the mood of the national event by donning walk to work t-shirts, caps and proudly displaying drink bottles, which were also distributed in the Eastlands’ store as customers came to buy their lunch. 4Lunch has been a long-time supporter of walk to work day and provides healthy breakfasts for the event. Walk to work day is an annual event held around Australia on Friday 5 October and is an initiative of the Pedestrian Council of Australia (PCA). Eastlands 4 Lunch manager Nat Belbin said the store was delighted to be part of the event, which encourages people to walk to work on one day in October. “We are pleased to help out and ensure that the message of eating healthily and promoting exercise gets out to the local community,” Nat said. Hobart Fire officers and administration staff from the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) also assisted in the promotion of Walk to Work Day. Despite battling the highly publicised fire at Myer in Hobart’s CBD fire crews took the opportunity to remind the public that it was important to stay active. Paul Salter of the TFS said walking was a very important form of exercise. “Walking maintains not only a healthy body but a revitalised and alert mind,” he said. “We would like to encourage the whole community to get involved in regular physical activity. “We encourage all staff members of the TFS to stay active and many of our staff members try to walk, run or ride to and from work. “It is crucial for obvious reasons that our fire officers stay fit and healthy.” Mr Salter said all TFS staff members were also encouraged to exercise during their shift. “We have our own trained fitness leaders that provide programs for staff involving aerobic activities such as treadmills, bikes, stair-climbers and strength work with weights,” he said. PCA chairman Mr Harold Scruby said: “Walking to work is a simple way of increasing your level of physical activity each day, without making major changes to your life. “Walking is easy, free and a great way to achieve better health and well being,” he said.
