The school has a new direction with the introduction of some wonderful initiatives to draw more local children to the school and increase student numbers.

Principal Steven Hay intends to make a difference and is already encouraging strong parent support with positive programs to take the school forward.

Key to the changes is the introduction of a birth to four program, designed to encourage more local children and their parents to have a taste of life at Bellerive Primary School and make it a positive experience.

Also starting this month was the school’s pre-kinder program, designed to prepare three to four-year-olds and their parents for their ‘official start’ in the school system at kindergarten next year.

The programs offer purposeful and authentic activities which will prepare children as lifelong learners and stimulate thinking, language and discovery.

It also provides an opportunity for parents to gain skills and strategies and act as co-teachers with their children in the home environment.

Four-year-olds Jakem Lampkin, Edith Ashmore and John Arthur were delighted to be at school and took part in all the activities including playing with trains, painting and pasting and listening to their kindergarten teacher Helen Duffy during story time.

Many of the parents are planning to take the children to both the pre-kinder and birth to four programs.
“It’s important children are provided with rich learning experiences from school at an early age particularly with social skills, literacy, numeracy and inquiry skills,” Mr Hay said.

More and more research is showing the early positive experiences at school will enable a smoother transition to the kindergarten year and increase a child’s success in the classroom.

Bellerive Primary School hopes to secure State Government Launching into Learning funding  through the school’s commitment to early years learning.

The pre-kinder program is running on Mondays, and the birth to four initiative on Wednesdays, both out of Bellerive Primary School’s kindergarten building
