Seahorse swim centre tradition lives on!
EASTERN Shore institution, the Seahorse Swim Centre, is gearing up for what looks like a busy spring summer period.

Co-manager of the centre Jackie Lane-Mullins said that learn-to-swim classes were starting to fill as parents were preparing their children for warmer weather and the prospect of aquatic activities.

The Seahorse Swim Centre in Tanundal St Howrah has been teaching children to swim and providing a wonderful, private swimming environment for casual swimmers both young and old for many years.

In fact lots of parents who are now having their toddlers and young children taught swimming by the six AUSTSWIM instructors at the centre, actually learned how to swim at the centre in their own youth!

“It’s quite incredible how many people come along and say how they learned how to swim here and they are bringing their young ones here now,” Jackie said.

But the Centre is not just for the young.

Jackie, who took over managing the centre with partner Xavier in July, said that the centre was a great gathering place for lots of groups.

“It’s really lovely to see groups of retired gentlemen come along for their exercise and enjoying getting together to have some laughs and great conversations.

“You can hear them laughing and chatting while they exercise and it really is a great feeling to know that you are providing them with a venue that is private and allows them time to socialise,” Jackie said.

Mothers Amanda Hass and Sian Cummins said that the Seahorse Swim Centre was a great place for their toddlers to learn to swim.

“It’s great because it’s not competitive and the children feel safe and gain confidence in the water,” Amanda Haas said.

“My eldest girl comes here too so I bring the twins in the mornings and they can learn without the hassle of others around,” Sian Cummins said.

Jackie said the centre had become a friendly meeting place for lots of groups.

“Even people who have never met each other before form friendships because they are either here for swimming and exercise, or here regularly as a guardian for a child.

We are delighted with the response and are looking forward to a busy build up to the summer season,” she said.
