Guess who came to the best side of the river to shop?

PRIME Minister John Howard made a surprise visit to Eastlands Shopping Centre this month and local business representatives and residents were quick to shake his hand and offer some advice about the forthcoming election and the issues that are top of mind.

It’s surprising who you meet when you are shopping in your local shopping centre – from left Chickenfeed’s marketing manager Adrian Smith, Liberal candidate for Franklin Vanessa Goodwin who accompanied the Prime Minister on his Eastlands’ visit, Prime Minister Howard and Chickenfeed general manager Ashley Wilson.

One business that plays an important role in the economy of the state and the employment of many Tasmanians is statewide discount retailer Chickenfeed.

The company’s general manager Ashley Wilson was in the Eastlands store when the Prime Minister paid a visit to the complex.

Mr Wilson said that when he heard from his marketing manager Adrian Smith that Mr Howard was nearby, he decided to try to meet him.

“I decided to seek him out and talk to him about the issues that face small businesses like ours particularly in relation to AWAs and how they operate in our business operations,” he said.

“It was great to have the opportunity to have a chat with him in a one-on-one situation and we had a good discussion about employer and employee  issues,” Mr Wilson said.
