Montagu Bay Primary Celebrates Its 75th Anniversary Fair
THE Montagu Bay Primary School is holding its 75th anniversary fair on Sunday 12 August from 10am to 2pm and it’s gearing up to be one of the most memorable fairs at the school to date.  The school’s fairs are usually a biennial event with the previous fair held two years ago.  Montagu Bay Primary has been conducting fairs at the school since 1933 which is no mean feat for the staff, students and parents and friends associations over the years!

Coordinator Leah Cooper said a full range of entertainment was being organised and will be highlighted throughout the day by MC Andrew Colrain.  The entertainment will include presentations by school choirs, a pedlar’s parade, a ‘Vertigo’ climbing wall and extreme air, jumping castle, Life Be In It activities, buskers, animals from Zoo Doo, and a great jazz band.

There’ll also be craft, face painting, hair braiding, handball, with sweets, balloons and mystery jars, a money tree, a lucky dip, lucky stickers and raffles.

There’ll lots to buy including a white elephant stall, as well as the full range of other stalls including plants, cakes, second hand videos, second hand books, chocolate treats, homemade produce and second hand children’s clothes,.

A feature will be the traditional chocolate wheel.

Organisers say there’ll be plenty to eat including a barbecue and hot potatoes,
drinks, salad rolls, cups of cappuccino, hot soup and all of the regulars at fairs such as donuts, popcorn, fairy floss, snow cones and lots of Devonshire teas served throughout the afternoon.

Leah Cooper says the fair will be clean and green and will include biodegradable crockery and cutlery, recycling waste and eco-friendly carry bags.  A clean-up crew has been established similar to the Taste of Tasmania and this will consist of a parent/student team organised by Grade2/3 teacher, Sharron Baird.

An auction of students’ work, as well as other sporting memorabilia, will be conducted by Eastern Shore identity and real estate agent Hank Petrusma.

The official opening will be officiated by the Governor of Tasmania William Cox with a visit by the Education Minister, David Bartlett during the day.

Other highlights will include a vintage car display and well as displays from Tasmania Police and the Tasmania Fire Service.

The money raised from previous fairs has been used to pay for sunshades for students, books, author visits and excursions.
