122 Cambridge Road, Rosny Park 6245 0711 (mobile 0438 882 993) On the day the crane decided to attempt a dive over the bridge, I decided to go to Venus for lunch – there was no point in attempting to get across the river. The place was jam packed with lunchers and the menu, while small, is very interesting. The specials’ board had a soup of the day - ham hock and vegetables and rich tomato ($10.50). This soup, on a freezing day, warmed the cockles of one's heart! The soup was hearty and came with bread. Venus itself is worth a visit for everything in the room - flowers, dresses, hats, jewellery, shoes, accessories, and the food. They also have a great selection of desserts, biscuits and other yummy things - and coffees, teas, soft drinks and a small wine list which also has wines by the glass. I opted for the Victorian Chardonnay which was wonderful with the soup at lunch time. The meal was so good, I dragged the Dragon in for lunch a few days later. We shared the entree antipasto which featured one of the better hummus dips I have come across. Then for mains, the Dragon decided on the special risotto with duck and caramelised onions and I had the eggs wrapped in prosciutto with spinach, served on garlic potatoes. It was a smashing combination of flavours. They also have pickled zucchini on the antipasto platter and, I hate to say it, but it is a better pickle than mine.
