| Sport and recreation grants – call for applications |
|
SPORT and Recreation Tasmania’s new grants program is open for applications.
The minor grants program will provide funding on a dollar for dollar basis, with grants ranging from $250 to $5000. “Many sport and recreation organisations rely on volunteer support and are often run on tight budgets,” said Minister for Community Development, Michelle O’Byrne. “The minor grants program is one way we can support our community and encourage people to be more active through sport and recreation.” Projects eligible for the minor grants program include: • Recruitment, retention or development programs • Purchase of equipment for participants • Planning and research studies • New community events such as fun runs, walking and cycling events promoting physical activity • Development or upgrade of facilities. Ms O’Byrne said a review of Sport and Recreation Tasmania’s grants programs has resulted in the community grants program and the facilities grant program being replaced with the minor and major grants programs. “The new programs will make it easier to go through the application process and the types of projects eligible for funding have been expanded. “This will enhance the sport and recreation sector’s capacity to deliver a greater number of high quality sport and recreation opportunities to all facets of the Tasmanian community,” Ms O’Byrne said. A significant change to the 2007-08 Minor Grants Program is that it has been developed as a rolling program, with funding being made available in three rounds throughout the year. Administered by Sport and Recreation Tasmania, the funds are made available through the State Government’s community support levy, which is funded from the profits of gaming machines in hotels and clubs.
