Talking Herbs-the alternative medicines.

By SALLY RILEY*

HERBS are the gentle alternative for every day ailments and have been
used successfully for hundreds of years.

Three which are most beneficial at this time of the year and are very well known are:

Echinacea purpurea: For the treatment of upper respiratory infections and especially helpful in those with weakened immunity.

Allium sativum: (Garlic): It is an expectorant and is beneficial in bouts of acute or chronic bronchitis. It has cholesterol-lowering activity and kills bad bacteria in the gut. It may also assist in the reduction of high blood pressure.

Eleutherococcus senticosus or Siberian ginseng: This herb boosts energy levels and stamina, particularly after illness.

Doses for herbs should always be checked with a professional health practitioner as therapeutic doses vary for each herb and some have cautions for certain  health conditions.
