PEPPERMINT BAY

Woodbridge

THE dragon, Louise and I headed down to Peppermint Bay. The Bruny oysters were the hit of the tasting platter until we arrived at the abalone sitting on a fat Huon mushroom - enough to knock your socks off. ($14.90 per person). The house baked bread was terrific as well. We then shared another platter, with house smoked ham, a fritatta, rocket, a light and wonderful chicken liver pate, and a terrine. This dish changes all the time, depending on seasonal produce.
Then we jumped on the pot roasted Rannoch Farm quail with cotechino sausage and piperade ($15.90), followed by the Spring Bay scallops served with bubble and squeak and apple cider hollandaise ($16.90). Every dish was absolutely fantastic. Grazing plates usually showcase the local produce and, when shared, are a great way to have lots of different goodies. A very charming waiter, delightful wines, and a thoroughly good  time had by all. You can dine in the restaurant, or eat in the pub bar. The food is excellent in both. Take a gander at the fish in the big fish tank in the  garden. They are the most spoilt fish on the planet.
